Space comes to town

   Mr Chan Cheow Hong, the centre's assistant divisional director (marketing and special projects), said "We are also trying to bring in several famous astronauts like John Glenn, the American Veteran astronaut who relived his astronaut days last year at 77."
   The centre is hoping for an attendance of half a million visitors over the three months of the exhibition from May 15 to Aug 15.
   There will be special arrangements for schools to visit the exhibition. Publicity programmes have also been planned to attract tourists from the region.
   Tickets will be on sale from Monday at TicketCharge, the Singapore Science Centre and OmniTheatre.
   They cost $16 fro each child between three and 12 years old, $25 for adults, and $69 for a family of two adults and two children.

   Visitors to the Singapore show will be able to board the life-size space shuttle Ambassador, a touring exhibition o f the Nasa technology. The five-storey space shuttle includes the actual living quarters of the astronauts and a vast array of electronic instructments and gadgets.
   Making its first trip out of the US is the Mars exhibition segment, where visitors can view a Mars Rover moving on a simulated Martian landscape. This is a replica of the $103.2 million Mars Rover sent to the red planet.
   Multimedia displays will also place visitors in the environment of outer space.
   And to cater to space mania, there will be a wide array of space merchandise at a space store.
   At a press conference on the exhibition yesterday, Dr Chew Tuan Chiong,  the chief executive of the Science Centre said:
